Summary

A peptide certificate of analysis is lot-specific. Matching a catalog name (or even the correct product name without strength) is not enough to file analytical claims for the vial on your bench. Inventory practice: match lot first, then confirm product name and strength on the printed report equal the vial (and the live SKU row you are documenting). If strength on the COA differs from the vial, do not copy that report’s purity, method, lab, or identity into the live SKU row — document-or-delete.

Why catalog name alone fails

Catalog names group many lots and sometimes multiple strengths under one research product family. A COA for “Product X” at strength A does not document a vial of Product X at strength B, and it does not document a different lot of the same strength. Field-by-field reading still follows Academy 04 (How to Read a Peptide Certificate of Analysis). Lot matching is Academy 09 (Matching Lot Numbers: From Vial Label to the COA Library).

The three-way match

Before filing any COA field into inventory notes or hub rows, confirm all three:

  1. Lot — vial label lot equals COA lot (or library row lot).
  2. Product name — report product name matches the vial / live SKU naming for that listing.
  3. Strength — report strength (e.g., listed mg) matches the vial / live SKU strength.

If any of the three fails, stop. Do not borrow fields from a near-match.

Strength mismatch patterns (literacy)

SituationInventory action
Lot + name + strength all matchCopy printed fields only; omit blanks (Academy 12)
Lot matches, strength on COA ≠ vialDo not fill the live SKU row from that report
Name matches, lot differsDifferent lot — different certificate; do not copy
Catalog name matches, no lot on COA / “Unknown”Omit complete-row claims; do not invent a lot ID
Library has another strength’s COA onlyLeave live strength’s analytical cells blank until a matching-strength report exists

What you still must not invent

Even after a three-way match:

Blank fields stay blank (Academy 12).

How to log a lot-specific filing

  1. Read vial lot, name, strength.
  2. Find the library row (Academy 09).
  3. Confirm the three-way match on the PDF / library fields.
  4. List printed fields; leave blanks for missing ones.
  5. If no matching-strength lot report exists, request the certificate through store support with order number + vial lot — still do not invent fields while waiting.
