Summary
A peptide certificate of analysis may print a storage, conditions, or appearance line for the lot on file. That line is lot documentation — copy it only when printed on the matching lot report after lot + name + strength match. It is not a substitute for sealed lyophilized storage literacy on Academy 06 (Storing Lyophilized Research Peptides), and it is not permission to invent storage temperatures or appearance claims when the field is blank. This article covers reading printed COA notes for sealed dry solid material only — not reconstitution, solvents, volumes, or use protocols.
Two documents, two jobs

Field-by-field COA reading still starts with Academy 04 (How to Read a Peptide Certificate of Analysis). Lot + name + strength match is Academy 14 (Lot-Specific COA: Why Strength and Catalog Name Are Not Enough). Blank fields stay blank (Academy 12).
What a COA may print (literacy)
When present on the matching lot COA, you may see fields such as:
- A storage or storage conditions line (copy the printed text only).
- An appearance or description line for the as-received solid (copy only what is printed).
- Related conditions wording in a notes block (still copy-only; do not paraphrase into invented numbers).
Rules:
- Confirm lot + product name + strength match the vial before filing any storage or appearance note (Academy 14).
- Copy the printed string into inventory notes exactly as printed (or omit).
- If the storage / appearance field is blank, unreadable, or “Unknown,” omit it — document-or-delete (Academy 12).
- Do not invent −20 °C, light, moisture, color, or form from Academy 06, a Spec Sheet, or another lot when the matching COA leaves the field blank.
- Do not treat a blank COA storage line as “no storage needed.” Follow sealed dry-solid literacy on Academy 06 and your facility SOP; simply do not invent a COA claim.
Sealed dry solid only (hard boundary)
This article and Academy 06 address sealed lyophilized (freeze-dried) solid handling literacy. Out of scope here:
- Reconstitution
- Solvents / diluents
- Volumes / concentrations
- Dosing or experimental use protocols
- Efficacy, disease, human or animal use

If a COA somehow prints reconstitution language, that does not expand Register A Academy copy — do not reproduce reconstitution, solvent, or volume instructions in Academy or store CTAs.

How to log a COA storage / appearance pass
- Match lot + name + strength (Academy 14).
- Read the COA for a printed storage / conditions / appearance line (Academy 04).
- If printed → copy into inventory notes; if blank → omit (Academy 12).
- Separately apply sealed lyophilized storage literacy (Academy 06) for dry-solid handling — without inventing COA fields.
- Never backfill blanks from Spec Sheets, other lots, or marketing copy.
